Calling them the New World, his journey marked the beginning of a colonization effort that led to the forming of one of the most developed countries on Earth - the United States of America. Prior to the European settlers there were numerous indian nations living on the continent.

The Memorial is built like a Greek temple and houses a giant statue of the president. The Memorial is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. across from the Washington Monument.
